This My Favorite time to Fish Big Pike

The best times to fish are when the fish are naturally most active. The Sun, Moon, tides, and weather all influence fish activity. For example, fish tend to feed more at sunrise and sunset. During a full Moon, tides are higher than average and fish tend to feed more. However, most of us go fishing when we can get the time off, not because it is the best time. But there are best times, according to fishing lore:
Best Times for Fishing

* One hour before and one hour after high tides, and one hour before and one hour after low tides. Inland, the times for high tides correspond with the times when the Moon is due south. Low tides are halfway between high tides.
*"During the "morning rise" (after sunup for a spell) and the "evening rise" (just before sundown and the hour or so after).
* When the barometer is steady or on the rise. (But even during stormy periods, the fish aren't going to give up feeding. The smart fisherman will find just the right bait.)
* When there is a hatch of flies -- caddis flies or mayflies, commonly. (The fisherman will have to match his fly with the hatching flies or go fishless.)
* When the breeze is from a North westerly quarter rather than from the north or east.

How To Clean A Northern Pike

1. First, the back fillet. Set the pike on its belly (swimming position) and cut across the fish straight down to the backbone just behind the head. Turn the knife so that it’s lying flat atop the backbone, with the sharp edge facing the tail. Cut following the backbone until you reach the dorsal fin, then turn the knife and cut up to remove the back fillet. This should also serve to expose the tips of the Y-bones.

2. Now make a cut on each side of the fish behind the gill plate, from the backbone down to the belly. With the tip of the knife, gently separate the flesh from the outside of the Y-bones down to the belly on both sides, starting from the head and ending at the dorsal fin. You now have two more boneless fillets, but you’re not done yet.

3. There’s another set of Y-bones that runs vertically just below the dorsal fin; you’ll want to avoid this, too. Put the fish on its side and cut just behind the dorsal fin down to the backbone. Then turn the knife so the sharp edge is facing the tail and cut back along the backbone to the tail. Repeat on the other side and you now have a total of five beautiful, boneless fillets (and don’t leave behind the cheeks).

This method works best with pike about five pounds and over (but please, be sure to release the big bruisers). Once you’ve mastered this technique, it will change your mind about passing up pike in favour of more easily cleaned fish. All it takes is one crispy fillet.

Q. When it is as hot as it is all over the country how can anyone still successfully fish for trout?

A. Trout (especially Browns) are very active at night during the hot and muggy part of the summer. Fish at dusk or even at night (where lawful) and use big flies or lures that will push the water. This will attract the fish. Examples include Muddler minnow flies, top water plugs.

With an increase in temperature a Trout's internal system speeds up. Think about this when retrieving spinners, spoons, and flies. When it is a hot day you may want to try speeding up your presentation.

Texas: Some real good offshore fishing for Sea Trout and Red Fish, some real good catches in the Corpus Christi area. Gerald Carson-Capt. at Large Fishing, has a boat that is what any fishermen wants to be in. You may have to wait awhile, due to the few spaces in his yearly schedule- Book Now! Talking to one of my Offshore Outfitters, another season is almost over. For some great fishing for Bass..Try your luck at Sam Rayburn Reservoir.

South Carolina: Stripers and Large Mouth Bass are being caught at Lake Murray using plugs, jigs and worm rigs. 60 pound fish caught their in 2003.

Tennessee: Some real good fishing will be kicking off in the next week or so. Center Hill Lake for some real good Walleye fishing. South Holston lake and Norris Lake are good choices too. Pickwick Lake is a great lake for Small mouth bass).
California: Some good stream fishing taking place at Lake Shasta and on the Mcleod River for Big Browns and Rainbows. Another season is almost over. Lake Dixon near San Diego.......Had A world Class Large Mouth Bass caught and released at: 21 pounds 11 ounce.
Mexico: There are two lakes that have monster Large Black Bass (Bacha Lake) Peacock Bass in the southeast. Fishing is best between Jan-March. e-mail me to find out where to drop a line.
Costa Rica: Some unbelievable fishing for Tarpon and Bonefish this spring, several tarpon over 8 feet long were hooked, using fly's and jigs -This is HOT SPOT For These Two Species Of Big Game Fish. My guide friend runs a Beautiful Camp their, FISHING IS HOT!!!!!! Jan-April Jungle Rides to some very old Ruins also!!!! The Season Is On!!
Argentina: Rainbows and Brown Trout fishing has been superb this year. All stream fishing. The Season Will Be Starting in January.
Uraguay: Dorado Fishing
Alaska: Glacier Bay, Homer, and Bristol Bay,Alganak,Kwichek,Kodiak and and and.

Mongolia For Taimen.......The average Taimen is around 33 inches and weighs roughly 10 pounds, however, there will be multiple chances every day to try catching fish over 50 inches. Siberian White Fish, Siberian Grayling, Lenok, Umber, Baikal, Omul and River Perch are among the other varieties you will catch among the spectacular scenery of Mongolia 's exotic naturmongolian hucho taimen. The Hucho taimen is the largest salmonid fish in the world; an exclusively freshwater fish found in Siberia and Mongolia. Now endangered over much of its range, healthy populations can still be found in remote parts of Russia and Mongolia.
